A Journey from Fear to Resilience
A few years ago, I attended my friend’s wedding, which was 100 km away from my city. Since he hailed from a small village, we encountered some difficulty reaching his home. Despite the challenges, we made it. That evening, he hosted a splendid bachelor party, and everyone was enjoying alcohol. However, I refrained from indulging as I was engrossed in a call with my girlfriend.
During those initial days of love, there was an abundance of things to share, and whenever we conversed, it felt like being on cloud nine. That particular night, as everyone was engrossed in the party, I stepped outside and continued our conversation on call. Walking while talking had become a habit of mine. engrossed in the lengthy call, I inadvertently ventured towards the backside of the village, heading north. After about half an hour, I turned around and was surprised to find the village missing from sight. It dawned on me that I had unintentionally walked 4 km away from the village.
Continuing the call, we delved into a deep discussion about our favorite color (mine being red) and her preferred food. Reluctant to end the call, I turned back towards the village. Along the way, I noticed lights on the road, and reassured, I realized I was nearing the village. seated on a bench, I remained oblivious to my surroundings, engrossed in discussions about tomorrow’s tiffin and her role designation. Despite receiving a single beep indicating my phone’s low 15% battery, I paid no mind, as we continued exchanging her Facebook ID and my Instagram ID.
In no time, my mobile switched off. Turning around, I discovered I was in the village graveyard, feeling a chill down my spine. In the distance, a fire raged, sending flames into the air. The wind picked up, causing the surroundings to shake, intensifying the eerie atmosphere. startled by a nearby sound, terror crept in. Turning toward the village, I walked slowly, realizing something was walking towards me. As I stopped, so did the mysterious presence. Unable to comprehend, my mind raced with thoughts. What was once a heavenly place quickly transformed into a nightmarish hell within moments.
In a tense ordeal, I engaged in a game of moving and stopping multiple times, too afraid to look back. Finally, summoning courage, I decided to run towards the village, regardless of what might be behind me. Sprinting like Usain Bolt, the mysterious presence chased me relentlessly. Despite my heavy run, the village seemed distant. After covering 7 km in a frantic dash, I finally reached a village. In the distance, I spotted a man talking on the phone, providing a reassuring sight.
Gaining courage, I stopped running, and the mysterious figure also halted. Slowly turning back, I realized it was just a dog. Instead of crying or laughing, I shared the incident with my friends, and we all had a good laugh. What lingered in my thoughts wasn’t the dog or ghosts, but the peculiar situation I found myself in.
Life presents numerous troubles that often chase us persistently, yet we hesitate to confront them due to fear. With the support of others and our own courage, facing these troubles often diminishes their impact, turning them into manageable challenges and, at times, even sources of amusement. Regardless, facing challenges is crucial, as the fear of troubles can haunt us repeatedly throughout the day, whereas we only live once.
